About NAMI San Antonio
Who We Are:
We are a grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals, families and friends affected by mental illness. We are a self-help, support and advocacy organization helping those living with mental illness such as: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, schizo-affective, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive/anxiety disorders, pervasive development disorders, borderline personality disorder, attention deficit disorders and other severe and persistent mental illnesses.
NAMI San Antonio works to promote equitable services and treatment for consumers and families living with mental illnesses through education and advocacy.
NAMI San Antonio wants all residents of our community to be educated with the facts. Mental illnesses are biological brain disorders that respond to treatment, which allows consumers to live productive lives of recovery.
NAMI San Antonio was incorporated as The San Antonio Alliance for the Mentally Ill in October 1984 under the guidance of five directors: Clarissa Ashley, Ulamae Bond, Rachel Cheyney, Marge Holmes and Marge Ognibene.
